About Paul Shapiro
Paul Shapiro is a bestselling author, four-time TEDx speaker, co-host of the Business for Good Podcast, and co-founder of a sustainable protein company. He’s spent his career working to improve sustainability in our food and agriculture systems, with an emphasis on accelerating alternative proteins that are better for public health, the planet, and animal welfare.
Most recently, Paul Shapiro debuted his first book, Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World, that offers readers an inside view of the race to commercialize the world’s first real animal products that are grown without the need to raise and slaughter animals. The book received rave reviews, and was named a Washington Post bestseller in January 2018. Before the book’s publication, Paul published various articles and contributed to and authored other shorter works, including Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics and Animal Welfare in Animal Agriculture. He’s a guest on many news outlets, such as CNN, StarTalk Radio with Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Point of Inquiry, as well as dozens of periodicals. He continues to speak publicly about the food systems currently in place, food systems of the future, and the general treatment and well-being of animals.
As the founder of Compassion Over Killing and a former Vice President at the Humane Society of the United States, Paul Shapiro has had the privilege of spearheading legislative initiatives in order to prevent abuse of farm animals, engage with major food corporations to help end cruel practices in their supply chains, and increase demand for plant-based proteins.
Currently, Paul resides in California with his partner Toni Okamoto, herself an accomplished author as well.
